When I became a health-tech founder, I assumed most people in the space were driven by a desire to genuinely improve patients’ lives.
It’s been… eye-opening to realise that isn’t the norm. Truly patient-centred people are rarer than you’d think.
That’s why meeting Michelle and Sian was such a turning point. After decades in life sciences, they founded The Patient Project to advocate for patients inside the pharmaceutical R&D process - ensuring interventions are built with real patient needs at the centre, not bolted on afterwards.
They’ve since become an invaluable partner to us at Human Health. As we scale Human Evidence, our platform for research partnerships, they’ve helped us convene the right KOLs - people with the right intentions - to shape how this product comes to life responsibly. The healthcare system desperately needs technology to evolve - but tech can only do that well when medical and patient-advocacy experts actively partner with us. Otherwise, we end up digitising a broken system, not redesigning it. We need organisations like The Patient Project who bridge that gap with integrity and clarity.
"What? The UK Clinical Study Registry (ISRCTN) didn't have a communication strategy?
We had only 7 LinkedIn followers. Who you gonna call? - The Patient Project. Sian and Michelle listened carefully to understand our business and connected this to users of the registry and patients. The result - an ISRCTN Communication strategy readily endorsed by the board. So often strategies are produced with great slides and visuals but they fail because they are not implemented effectively.
Not only did The Patient Project develop the strategy, they made sure it was implemented. We now have over 700 LinkedIn followers and are embarking on phase 2 of the strategy. Sian and Michelle bring bags of experience and know how; they are fantastic team players and are great to work with. I would not hesitate in recommending The Patient Project for your communications and patient engagement.
I had the pleasure of collaborating with Michelle and Sian at The Patient Project on our patient advisory boards recently.
They were the ultimate example of professionalism, keeping our team on task, providing insight and expertise to help us create an exceptional event. Their intuitive skills of presenting materials with grace and empathy to our focus group, and their natural ability to adjust and adapt to our needs, made it a rewarding and inspiring experience.
I highly recommend and endorse them to anyone else considering a patient advocacy project.
“Michelle and Sian are both lovely, empathetic people, qualities that will make the Patient Project a much-needed success. Their black books contain every respiratory expert in the world, all of whom would respond to them when contacted”
